There is a strong link between drug abuse and crime. Drug addicts commit violent crimes to pay for their prescription medications, causing harm to society. Furthermore, many perpetrators are under the influence of alcohol or drugs when they commit crimes. There is indeed a direct correlation between the concentration of drug abuse, the type of drug, and the number of offenses perpetrated. With enhanced drug abuse, so does the rate and severity of delinquent behavior. Drug abusers are forced to submit crimes in order to obtain drugs. Drug abusers are not employed. As a result, the poverty trap, substance abuse, and crime is perpetuated.
