Howard Zinn was the author of A People’s History of the United States. The book focuses on the United States’ history unbiased. It was written and published in 1980. Howard Zinn the writer of the book was a political scientist and a historian. The book displays another part of the United States history that is unknown or ignored by the American citizens and the outside world. The book portrays United States as a disrespectful country to its citizens and manipulative to the outside world. United states are displayed as a country that only benefits the elitist groups in the society while impoverishing and disregarding the poor. Howard Zinn’s book is considered the most read book of history by leftist Americans. The book portrays a certain dark picture of the United States by focusing on the marginalized and persecuted people rather than display the heroes and elites of the country. In summary from the world war to the mid-1960s, United States is portrayed as a ruthless and manipulative nation full of racism, slavery and lacks democracy. In the world war II, the United States purported to be fighting for moral reasons. The united states claimed to be fighting to end tyranny, totalitarianism, repression and dictation in Europe. Rather, the United states had other hidden motives (Zinn, 2015).  Howard Zinn proposes that the United States saw a chance to eclipse the European nations and become world super power. According to the book, by the end of the World War II, the United States had already made enough connections with the European countries hence guaranteeing that its business would be allowed free trade. The World War II concluded with the detonation of atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The atomic bombing in Japan ensured the United States acquired a new status as the super power nation.
