In the anthropological context, the word race refers to the biological and cultural variability that exists within humanity. In other words, race is the biological commonalities shared by cultural groups. Anthropologists tend to explore at the societies’ custom across the world to find and explain the common elements that define human existence and the aspects that contributes to variation in human lives.
Anthropologists approach the subject of race by employing archeological, linguistic, sociocultural and biological parameters in their studies. On archeology, anthropology examines and investigates human prehistoric while focusing on biological traits of different human population (Hastrup, 2013). On linguistic, the discipline assesses how language play a role in defining and categorizing populations. In relation to sociocultural aspects, anthropologists focus on how racial identification affects social behavior and interactions among the human race (Hastrup, 2013). The bottom line is to learn and understand the origin of other peoples’ behaviors and their racial identities.
