Policymakers and researchers have always perceived children from low-income backgrounds as being prone to maltreatment as compared to those from average or high-income households. Support groups and efforts have only been focused on alleviating poverty among custodial families while neglecting the lack of fathers, which tends to impact socioeconomic status.
