How Far Should Police go to get a Confession?
Confessions are among the most powerful pieces of information and evidence that may be presented in a criminal court since they carry such a substantial weight. Thus, the confessions are likely to lead to a judgment. One of the fundamental aims of the judicial system is to extract a confession for submission in a court of law. Therefore, debates have erupted about whether or not deceit should be used to gain confessions from the accused. Police can utilize deceit and ingenuity to get offenders to confess. Using such approaches during questioning, however, is likely to result in false admissions.
