Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act (CYPF) introduced in 1989 triggered change in the relationship between family workers, state social workers, community social workers. It led to division within the groups hence they had to negotiate about differences that threatened their relationship. This topic therefore aims to explore the changed relationships with more focus on connections that exist between policies designed at government level, social work practice which works in line with this policy.
How social workers are involved in Policy Practice?
Social work codes of ethics require workers to find the need to get involved in policy practice in order to transform community development, social change and not vice versa. An example of such development is when social work is involved in achieving social growth, and lead in the forefront with an aim to educate community members through strict adherence to values and principles: humanity and social justice, community collective responsibility and cultural differences and diversity.
Social workers have the obligation to engage in political and social action that seeks to ensure equal distribution of resources among the vulnerable groups and create employment opportunities needed in order to develop fully. NAPSWI (2016, p. 43).Secondly, the nature of issues within communities in Asia require public policy approaches .Population in this region is high and therefore access to basic needs and services such as proper housing, sanitation and food. Poverty is an issue in the region despite efforts put and progress that has been made through various development approaches and sustainable development goals being pursued now. (Pawar, 2017).
