Identify how the social worker might have used the ecological model to understand Brandon’s situation based on a person-in-environment perspective.
When children are abused and neglected, their growth becomes affected as well; as these children grow, they become withdrawn from their peers and they become isolated. Most of the children that have been abused and neglected end up suffering in silence due to the fear of sharing that information with anyone. Brandon is a 12-year old Caucasian boy who has been abused before at the ages of 6 years and 4 years by his father. To address Brandon’s case, a social worker must be very careful about how she handles him. She should focus on what he is saying by actively listening to him during the intake and the sessions as well.
The ecological model is one way that the social worker can help Brandon in his recovery.
