Over the decades, human trafficking has been a global health concern affecting diverse communities. For the past few years, human trafficking has been interpreted to be an issue that affects women and children. However, debates have been held to discuss whether human trafficking and exportation is a social problem affecting young women and girls only. This research paper seeks to find answers to the target for human trafficking and establish whether it refers to sex trafficking and abuse only. This follows previous reports that have demonstrated cases of young men being sold as slaves to be on the rise.
Human trafficking is among the top social issues being felt by millions of people across the globe. The first cases of human trafficking were reported when young men were being sold as slaves to masters who exposed them to harsh environments to provide labor as casual laborers with no pay. However, this myth has taken a different shape as young women and girls have been reported to be missing only to released by their abductors after being sexually violated. The issues of sexual violation have also been reported among male victims of human trafficking who are sexually harassed by colleagues and their masters after being taken away to offer forced labor by masters (Sujatha & Achchi, 2017). Human trafficking has gained public interest in international forums because it is considered to be a crime against humanity. Human trafficking, therefore, poses global and security threats among communities that practice such violations. It is with this background that this research is done to identify human trafficking activities based on current trends of recruitment.
