Introduction
Service users play an essential part in ensuring that social workers can find answers to the issues plaguing society effectively. One of the issues that are said to have an effect on how activities are carried out in society is the lack of social equality, which occurs when some groups are given preferential treatment on available possibilities. With the use of just practice assessment, social workers can determine the factors that contribute to the difficulties encountered in society by employing service users and devise a solution that will make it more likely that improved outcomes will be achieved (Finn, 2016). Social workers may devise implementations using the just practice framework that will assist in ensuring that social equality is achieved in the community. This will help ensure that everyone is treated equally. There are various ways in which rights to social equality have been violated, and it is not permitted for a significant number of individuals to take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to them. In order to gather information on the social injustices women face in various cultures across the world, the research for this project will be conducted with the assistance of service recipients.
Identity and Issues
KH, born in France, moved to her native country, Gambia, when she was two years old. There, she enrolled in Madarasa to learn the Holy Quran, and when she turned 17 years old, she was forced into an early marriage to her cousin. After four years of marriage, KH and her cousin separated. She has suffered from prior trauma in the form of an abusive marriage, which she did not engage in voluntarily. Her most recent traumatic experience was being mistreated after moving to the US and being married as a second wife to BJ. Throughout these challenges, KH has been resilient. Afterward, KJ divorced BJ, and she gradually determined her strength. She seems happier now as she recently met a man she is truly in love with, which is her first experience of this kind. Managing her relationship with her abusive past has been a challenge for her. However, she is now married to the man she met, and she is continuously practicing what she learned from the agency. My goal as a social worker is to ensure that she does not have challenges developing a stable relationship that would benefit her emotionally because of unfavorable experiences in the past. The goal is to ensure that she is not hesitant to collaborate with others (Van Breda, 2018). This segment illustrates the challenges KH has gone through and the development and achievements she has achieved from the agency's input. Her transition to early childhood had been a nightmare full of abusive relationships and environments. Generally, this is expected to affect the nature of relationships that she is going to develop throughout her life. However, with a social worker's input, there is hope for more stable relationships. At the moment, there is hope with the new relationship she has developed, and she is pleased about it.
Meaning
Because of the way in which members have treated her of society, my client's previous experiences have, to some degree, molded her perspective of the world. The significance of KH's history has made her very concerned about the possibility of the same thing repeating in the future. She is constantly reminded that she is in danger of losing custody of her children, which would be analogous to the way in which she had previously lost her children through an accident. The fact that KH has such a pessimistic outlook on the simulation of this world may be deduced from this precise connotation. This is a clear conclusion of her pessimistic outlook toward society. In her case, she has experienced bad relationships as a never-ending problem. Nevertheless, I am certain that the issue will be resolved thanks to the excellent advice I have given and the therapeutic measures I have taken.
My consistent interaction with KH has led me to hope that she will, in the end, see what the world has in store for her and be able to let go of the pessimistic outlook she now has. It sounds as though she is in a hopeless predicament via the production of her reflection, and her gentle voice conveys this impression. However, the fact that she has shaken off those negative relationships is significant for her development in the future. Everyone has a unique perspective on the world, which colors how they interpret the things they hear or see in their everyday lives (Almeida et al., 2015). The things that directly impacted their life have a significant bearing on this.
Meaning is a tool for drawing greater attention to the interpretive processes involved and the subjective and incomplete character of our knowledge of the social environment. The numerous aspects of one's social life that have an effect on meaning provide one with a greater capacity to recognize and appreciate differences (Kaushik & Walsh, 2019). It is possible to erroneously interpret the meaning despite the fact that there is space for interpretation. Because of this, understanding the meaning would need one to examine and deconstruct their positionality as both the social worker and the client.
Consequently, as I work to help KH address the abuse she endured, I am inspired to examine aspects of my past self and my personality in order to provide a fitting conclusion to her perspective. It is equally essential for social workers to have an understanding of the ways in which other people make sense of the world in which they live. However, for my comparison, I have not been subjected to poverty, although I have encountered prejudice at various points in my life. It is imperative that I do not allow my preconceived notions to cloud my judgment while addressing my client's concerns. I have a deep respect for the significance of the meaning. I must confront this challenge to arrive at a destination where I may experience the sensation of being both unfamiliar and at ease.
Contexts
After hearing about KH's history and the circumstances of her life, I have no doubt that I have a deeper comprehension of the conditions and occurrences that have occurred in her life. Since she was a little child, she has always been the product of someone else's social setting and has always been a victim of the difficulties posed by such a system. KH has a unique feeling of belonging that deviates significantly from the standards set out by society. As a result of not having somebody in her life to serve as a model for her, she has been led to contemplate sensible options that have resulted in mental and physical anguish. On the other hand, despite the fact that they are excruciatingly painful, these scars have helped shape her into the kind of woman she is today. KH is now in a stable relationship, which she is visibly happy about. Based on the fact that this is the first time she is experiencing such a positive relationship, it is clear that her past relationships were toxic. In her teens, KH felt completely powerless and terrified, and she had no idea what to do next. However, a positive note is a fact that her family was supportive, although not in an ideal way. They would pressure BJ to provide the best living condition for KH, and she felt confident to share any challenges with them.
After hearing about KH's circumstances, it is clear that the previous relationship risks shaping her perspectives towards relationships and individuals. Earlier in her life, she was in an abusive marriage that she wanted nothing about. As a direct consequence, she entered into a polygamous marriage, which she states were her only option. Throughout this relationship, she is treated horribly by the first wife and her children. However, she did receive help and support from her family, who are in contact with BJ. The social worker's goal is to ensure that KH recovers from the abusive relationships she has ensured.
Working for a social work agency comes with a number of responsibilities. For instance, each agency has its own set of constraints as well as its own culture. Although I am required to act in accordance with the policies of the agency on occasion, there are occasions when it is essential for me to deviate from those rules. In the matter of KH, I am compelled to remain silent, despite the fact that I would want to voice my worries very much. For instance, after hearing her tale, I feel an overwhelming empathy for her. When she reveals that she was forced to marry her cousin at 17 years old and there was nothing done to punish the culprit, it is difficult to push aside the emotions. If I had been given the opportunity, I would have done all in my ability to see that justice was served. Due to such experiences, KH felt helpless and upset since there was nothing she could do to change the circumstances. Despite my determination as a social worker, I can do little about this circumstance. My abilities are restricted in scope. Due to the fact that the regulations of the agency specify that I should not get engaged, my capabilities to react to the requirements of such a circumstance are restricted.
Similarities in Positionality
I identify with KH since I also have a West African background, the same religion, age, and in terms of marriage and children. Thinking about KH's condition brings up memories of experiences I have had in the past and also some of the stories shared with me by my mother.
