Position Paper for or Against H-1b Visas in the United States (Essay Sample)

Instructions:

a 3 part paper;
1. For the cause (H-1B Visas)
My topic is going to be H-1B visas, the good thing about having people from other countries in the US is to continue the idea that the US is a diverse country. This helps companies and schools to bring people with a highly educated background to the country and use their talents for the success of the company or school. .
2. Against the cause (H-1B Visas)
The bad thing is that some of these people that come to this country with a H-1B, are not able to freely move between employers, this means that employers either companies or schools have the upper hand on these people.
3. Resolved in your own words your position in the matter.
Requirements by the professor in regards to the paper.
1. Minimum 1,834 words exclusive of title page, headers, references, charts, graphs, etc. I am trying out a new system this semester because you have more freedom to use all of your words rather than stress out about whether your paper is long enough to meet some arbitrary page requirement.
2. Use AT LEAST four (4) authoritative and/or scholarly sources.
3. The paper is worth 100 points, and will be graded on: following the word count requirement, approval of topic, depth of research, breadth of research, scholarly nature of references, incorporation of references, original ideas, spelling and grammar, and format.

H-1B Visas
Student’s Name
Institution Affiliation
The H-1B temporary work visa is the largest high-skill immigration program in the United States. The program was initiated as a form of allowing foreign skilled working individuals in the United States. The United States is considered one of the countries that is most appealing to foreign immigrants that are on the lookout for job opportunities. The numbers of foreign immigrants into and out of the country has been fluctuating since the program’s inception in 1990. Over the course of the 1990s, companies in the United States used the H-1B visa program to access foreign skilled labor from other countries such as India (Kennedy, 2018). In 1998 and 2000, the H-1B visa cap was temporarily increased in multiple occasions, although subsequent attempts to raise the cap since 2004 have failed. As such, the H-1B program has been advantageous for companies in the United States and especially those that are on the lookout for skilled labor in certain areas. On the contrary, the H-1B program has been controversial due to the fact that the employers who come into the United States under the H-1B program cannot freely move in between schools and/ or companies.
