Measurements of the cultural system occur after the gathering and identification of the relational contexts and relevant elements. (Breiger,2002) The process of measurement involves comparing every element in a cultural system to other elements in an identified relationship. Subjective similarity, one type of measurement technique, is based on the judgement of the matter by an individual. Cultural items under investigation are said to be like the point that an individual, who assesses the cultural event, makes a judgement that the items are similar. Subjective similarity technique can occur in three different ways according to (Mohr,1998). Respondents who are involved can judge the two cultural items under consideration, directly, clearly stating if the two are similar. The respondents have a choice of a variety of different cultural items from which they select the ones that are similar. A final means of conducting subjective similarity is by asking the respondents to sort cards representing cultural items into similar groupings, then aggregate the scores from the different respondents.
