Social class is one of the most controversial issues in the United States. Different societies have different ways o ranking people socially. Some rank people according to family lineage, religion and wealth. All societies must have different social classes depending on different factors. The United States is ranked the most powerful country in the world mainly due to its economic strengths. Therefore it can be argued the people in the United States are ranked according to how much money they have, but education is also a significant factor.
Income is one of the most common measure of social class in the United States. Personal income is a person’s total earnings or investment interests. The more a person earns, the higher their capacity to re-invest and improve their social rankings. People are ranked according to their note worth, meaning home equity, assets minus all liabilities (Mirowsky, 2017). Assets are referred as wealth’s raw materials. Educational attainment is also an important factor in ranking United States citizens.
