Salvation army is s religious and a non-profit making social welfare organization. It has its root from the east end of London and from evangelist William Booth in 1865. The purpose of this organization was to offer practical assistance to the poor and destitute as well as preaching the gospel to the groups. Salvation Army was originally called the Christian mission but later changed its name in 1878. Salvation Army has its branches in more than one hundred and thirty countries in the whole world. Members of salvation army have a great believer that Christian faith should be expressed through service to others. This organization advocates for full refrainment from drug abuse and supports volunteer for an assortment of civic activities.
Salvation army is guided by the mission of “preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination”. Through this salvation army is driven by the cultural value of helping the poor through the provision of food, clothing and also offering shelter to the homeless. During disasters salvation army provides relief to the affected, moreover, salvation army has a cultural value of rehabilitation and stopping human trafficking. In addition, salvation army work with the united nations, USAID and the local governments in efforts to eliminate poverty, economic empowerment as well as HIV/AIDs and community health projects.
Being guided by several core values salvation army is able to enhance intercultural and subcultural interactions. Resulting from proper management respect for others and commitment to the goals of the organization are achieved from each territory. Cultural differences are addressed in the organization by incorporating each culture of a territory in the management team. through these healthy interactions are achieved and each culture diversity is understood and respected.
Forward together plan being a key part of salvation army, the organization always examine organizational culture in every territory and as a whole and implement the plans for increasing the health and vibrancy of its areas of operation. The organization has a strong belief that people are the most valuable resource, and therefore efforts to make sure that any person who volunteers in the salvation army feel valued, encouraged and supported are always put in place. The organization has put in place several guidelines to enhance interactions and maximum service delivery. They include; working as teams and in partnership throughout the whole mission, identify, use and work from the strengths and weaknesses of persons, intentionally develop people around, always being positive and opportunistic in all the circumstances, furthermore being innovative in missions and mission support.
The salvation army operates in more than one hundred and thirty-one countries in the whole world and therefore diversity is not an exemption. The organization operates with many cultures and subcultures as each nation has its own cultures and subcultures. The interaction between these cultures in salvation army is enhanced through several meeting and forums which are organized all through the whole year. The conferences and meetings allow people from different countries to meet share the gospel and also interact. Distribution of translated Bibles and organization publications also helps in enhancing culture and subculture interactions in the salvation army.
Salvation Army has its branch in both southern and North America and therefore it has a partial representation of the American society in the whole organization. Having its wings in all the continents salvation army is an international organization which represents more than three hundred societies in every continent and its followers. Salvation Army does not represent American society as a whole but part of it those who are the followers and volunteers in the societies of America. Moreover, the organization has representatives from all the counties it operates. Therefor representing other more societies apart from American society.
New technology provides more exciting potentials for communication. Through the use of technology, people get connected regardless of their location and are able to share information in a single stroke. Salvation army being a religious-based organization it makes use of technology to preach the gospel and to communicate different needs from the different territories to the head office. Interactions in the salvation army are enhanced through several social network backgrounds. Salvation Army has an interactive email address for employees where they directly share their concerns and complains, furthermore in salvation army there are several landline numbers where workers are able to communicate from one territory to the other.
The use of social media in communicating in salvation army is not left behind whereby each territory has got their own Facebook pages, Twitter handles, Instagram pages, telegram skype and more social platforms where the public is able to get access and interact with employees of the salvation army. Video conferencing also has been a great tool in the engagement of director and the employees of salvation army from different territories.
