Negative impacts that undocumented aliens have in the construction industry in the United States.
The undocumented aliens are the illegal immigrants in the economy of the United States. These individuals have both negative and positive impacts on the economy. The immigrants are mostly low-skilled workers and work in varied areas of the job specification. Most of them work in the construction industry and contribute immensely in the sector. These individuals do works and jobs that the Americans do not want to do and thus no competition for jobs between them and the Americans. The negative impacts of such undocumented workers include;
i. The construction industries do not take into considerations the safety measures and safety regulations they should adhere to since the undocumented workers are less likely to blow the whistle for the fear of victimization and risk of deportation by the employer. For instance, the OSHA regulations that look into the number of hours of safety training that is required for the workers. Such neglect by the construction company cuts across to even the other citizens of America (Peri, 2012).
ii. The low wage rate accepted by the undocumented workers provides a competitive disadvantage to both the law-abiding construction workers and the U.S born workers.
