According to RefSeek’s guide to the 25 best online resources for medical reference, nih.gov aims to be the focal point for medical research in the United States. NIH is supposedly one of the best sources for medical health regardless of its audience. Diabetes was chosen as the main topic because this is significant not only for medical professionals but for everyone as it is a human disease. Several websites appear when one types “diabetes”, but surprisingly every website caters to different audiences. One of the websites chosen is entitled “Diabetes Mellitus” found in patient.info, and another is “What is Diabetes” from NIH. Both focus on diabetes but contain a lot of differences. What must be known is if both strategies are beneficial to the public and to medical experts.
Website 1 (Diabetes Mellitus) aims for medical professionals and is not layman-friendly. On the other hand, Website 2 (What is diabetes) is a website made for individuals outside the medical field who want to learn about diabetes. Knowing that Website 1 is solely for medical professionals, we can definitely say that this website is for doctors, nurses, scientists, dentists, therapists, pharmacists, etc.
