Introduction
Being aware of the severe competition from their counterparts in Silicon Valley from United States of America software developer in Seoul the capital city of South Korea have been creative enough to stay ahead in terms of technological advancements. To achieve this, they have used competition as a primary tool as discussed below.
Competition in terms of Wi-Fi technology
In terms of Wi-Fi technology, App developers in South Korea have installed the technology in all parts of Seoul including the subway straphangers. Residents of Seoul and its surroundings can stream live videos free of charge while on the ground. On the other hand, such development is yet to take place in United States of America, making South Korea to be more advanced than the American counterparts. The Wi-Fi speed in Seoul is twice faster than the speed of Wi-Fi in United States of America. That has been made possible by an enormous public investment in technology infrastructure for the last two decades (Wortham, 2015). The South Korean government on realizing the importance of gaining a competitive advantage in the technology sector, it initiated a 10-year plan to develop a broadband infrastructure for the country. Educational programs were also launched to educate the public on how to make use of the infrastructure.
Competition in terms of less regulation
Another competitive strategy targeted service providers. The government reduced the strict regulation of service providers, and this made it possible for consumers to have a variety of choices (Wortham, 2015). That made South Korea to perform better than the American counterparts whose market is dominated by few cable and telecommunication monopolies. The competition in South Korea led to low prices that attracted many customers across the borders to adopt their technology.
On recognizing the importance of competitive advantage South Korea has developed better mobile web that is more affordable to its clients. That has been able to change the way people live their lives by increasing efficiency and hence led to the development of customer loyalty (Wortham, 2015). That has helped South Korea to be more competitive than United States of America and hence more preferred by many customers in the mobile technology market.
Competition in terms of Better e-commerce
South Korea has also used competitive strategy to gain a milestone ahead of United States in terms of electronic commerce. For instance Coupang, a rising an upcoming e-commerce company in South Korea offers delivery on the daily delivery basis or even hourly delivery basis depending on the nature of the transaction with specialization in groceries and diapers. Thus, South Korea has used competition to advance the delivery culture more than in In United States where such thing is yet to happen. In Seoul, delivery culture has gained ground such that people are used to having couriers meet them at the subway stations close to their respective homes to deliver dinner and their dry cleaning (Wortham, 2015). That is contrary to the American people who are still in dark ages trying to adjust on how to use Amazon for other things apart from books and gifts.
Competition through enabling environment for foreign investors
Using competitive technology, South Korea has been able to attract more foreign investors to Seoul than Silicon Valley has achieved. For instance recently 500 startups an American firm, started a small fund called 500 Kimchi to focus on South Korea. Another foreign firm called Goldman Sachs made a massive investment in South Korean Woowa Brothers and its delivery services (Wortham, 2015). The competitiveness of South Korea has also attracted Google to open up its first college in Seoul being the first in Asia with the aim of mentoring those already enrolled in the technology incubation program.
Competition in terms of smartphone usage
Through its competitiveness, nearly all of Seoul's residents use smartphone technology something that is still gaining popularity in the United States of America. Thus, South Korea is already ahead in terms of usage of applications associated with Smartphones. Most transactions and payment services in South Korea are conducted via smartphone technology unlike in America where most transactions are still carried out manually (Wortham, 2015). For instance, Kakao Talk and line are the main chatting Apps in South Korea which generate most of their revenue from selling digital stickers, music and games and a small amount generated from advertising. The two Apps make millions of dollars annually.
Competition in terms of multi-functional Apps
Through competition, South Korea has managed to develop Apps that provide multiple functions. That is in contrary with the Ameri...
