Introduction
Drug abuse is a vice that has had different negative impacts on the society. In today’s society, drug abuse is an epidemic that is gaining negative popularity steadily among the young and the old. Alterman defines a drug as any substance which, when taken alters the normal physiological functioning of the body while drug abuse is described as the act of using psychoactive substances such as drugs for the wrong purpose. Some of the commonly abused drugs include alcohol and tobacco, but for this study, focus will be more on illegal drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines, and heroin. The unlawful drugs mentioned have serious adverse effects on the users, and as a result, governments have to outlaw their usage and make sure they are not supplied or sold to citizens. The following research aims at answering the question of how the effective use of counter-drug intelligence assist in the reduction of drug abuse and drug-related crimes in the United States. Citizens should accept that the current trends of drug abuse are alarming and that those living in the country are owed an excellent living environment. Roozen states that these drugs have various disadvantages and lead to rising of severe medical conditions such as addictions and damage to body organs that may cause pain among the affected people or lifetime illnesses such as HIV/ AIDS that may come as a result of sharing needles during usage of some of the illegal drugs. Drugs may also lessen the productivity of citizens since their use alters normal human behavior and causes difficulty in carrying out everyday activities among users.
