Premarital sex: Perception and Evolution through History
 Regardless of how globalized the world may be or what year we live in, premarital sex and its consequences can be radically different based on where you live - from being something that is punishable by death in many countries (usually those following strict Islamic Sharia law) to being almost a rite of passage in most Western cultures in recent decades. For this paper, we will be looking primarily at Western countries/cultures as the mindset in Eastern cultures with regard to pre-marital sex has remained largely static with a few notable exceptions over the past century or so . The role of external influences, cultural shift, geopolitics, and religion will also be observed with regard to how it affects premarital sex and it’s a perception in society. The argument being made here is that pre-marital sex in (primarily) Western societies has been de-stigmatized and accepted over the past few centuries and has even become a cultural phenomenon of its own.
