Introduction
The first article is a description of ethics in the work place and how business reacts to them in orders to remain competitive in the industry. The workplace is normally characterized by grim moral choices. The employees are encountered by hurdles that require them to make a choice from a number of ethical predicaments. In order for business to thrive and make profit, they are sometimes forced to offer bribes. There is often conflict of interest due to the decisions that a business is forced to make. Thus, ethics becomes a difficult concept to define as it can lead to good people doing bad things. In business, the situation can force people to react in a certain way. It is so because people are motivated by inherent norms and expectations that often lead them to unethical misconduct. In the second article, it talks about social responsibility that is demonstrated in the organization effort of caring about both their employees and the environment. The topic has been considered as of significance in research and business practice. The competitiveness of organizations that support such practice may be jeopardized by other industrial players. Business leaders should proactively structure their competitive environment to a more reassuring social responsibility.
Key arguments in the two articles
Pushing the edge and not crossing the boundary is one of the key arguments in the first article. The drive is for those people who are highly motivated and are willing to make extra effort to achieve greater success (Neesham, C. 2015, P. 511). The individual is mindful that this happens under constrain of law. The kind of reasoning has resulted to a tick-box state of mind. Thus, the business leaders in determining the ethical constraint usually looks at the prevailing laws while forgetting their moral values. The focus of the managers is not on what is legally acceptable but what is not acceptable. They conclude that whatever is not acceptable is permitted by definition.
In the second article, it argues that good working environment helps employees to generate innovations and inventions that facilitate growth. Further, it gives an example of Google as a company that offer better care for their employees. The employees enjoy free meals and numerous places such as libraries where the employees can meet, relax and discuss about issues. The practice has stimulated interaction and creativity giving the company a competitive advantage in the industry especially in its search engine. Secondly, there is a key argument on the spirit of entrepreneurship and capitalism that focuses on making profit while ignoring other critical aspects of the business.
