Reducing Harmful Effects of Alcohol and Drug Abuse
This literature review aims at providing an overview of the evidence for examining the measures for reducing the harmful effects of alcohol and drug abuse. Since the increasing rate of substance abuse among the current population, there is a need for exploring the preventing measures that focus on practicing healthy consumption of drugs. However, only a few studies have explored the impacts of educational and psychological impacts on the reduction of the effects of alcohol and drug abuse.
According to Mills 2011 (p.6), the Victorian Public Health and Well-being Plan 2015-2019 highlights reducing the harmful effects of alcohol and drug abuse as one of the five primary health and well-being priorities in the government’s plan. The drug and substance abuse policies by the National Institute of Health (NIH) observed that imposing tax policies on the prices and intake of alcohol may reduce excessive consumption of alcohol and its harmful effects (Elder et.al, 2010, p.4).
