NURSING CARE FOR MRS. BROWN
This essay aims to reflect on my experience while I was undergoing my nursing practice in the United Kingdom. I will use the Gibbs reflective cycle as it is the widely used tool for reflection. Generally, reflection is viewed as an important tool that encourages one to learn from past experiences, and change their action plan in relation to these experiences (palmer, 2007). According to wikstr (2012), Gibbs reflective cycle has been in use since 1988 and it involves six stages of reflection which enables nursing students to adopt important problem-solving techniques in healthcare.
My reflection is based on my experience while I was managing a client named Brenda Brown (not her real name). Brenda is an elderly patient aged 75 years and has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), a condition she got as a result of smoking too much. She is a mother of two and a grandmother of three. Sadly, Brenda suffers a lonely state as her husband Dennis died 8 years ago and her children lives upstate. Brenda wasn’t for the idea of having more kids as she had lots of miscarriages. According to her history, Brenda has been having difficulty sleeping and also suffers breathing problems due to her sickness. Two nurses, a special district nurse named Tricksy and a community respiratory nurse named Anna takes care of Brenda at her home. According to Brenda, Tricksy was a loving and caring nurse who charmed her way into Branda’s heart thanks to her hospitable nature. Unlike tricksy, Anna is a rather strict nurse and Brenda didn’t seem to like her much. Brenda is aged and as a result, she faces a little difficulty in executing home chores and managing her finances appropriately.
