Introduction
Evidence-based policy making (EBP) increased in its implementation both in the private and public sectors in the past decade (Stoker & Evans 2016, p. 5). The necessity of relying on EBP was to reduce instances where policies were implemented without sufficient evidence backing the rationale in employing resources to advance a policy. At the time, most policies touted as tide-changing for both economic and development purposes failed, either because more than initially planned resources were needed to ensure desired productivity, or there were a series of issues that were overlooked prior to undertaking the policy (Stoker & Evans 2016, p.7). With EBP, such cases have decreased in their occurrences, and governments and corporations can predict the viability of a project to realize its goals and objectives before its initiation. Despite these, several issues arise in reliance to EBP. These issues revolve around the type of evidences that need to be relied upon, barriers, and bias within the process of EBP (Stoker & Evans 2016, p.8). This paper illuminates these areas and provides an analysis of the contentious issues to use of EBP.
