Wal-Mart’s supply chain management
The supply chain management of any organization contributes either positively or negatively to its continued success. Wal-Mart has over the years used a supply chain management that incorporated all its activities so that they run smoothly and in coordination with each other. The supply chain management involves the production and manufacturing process, sourcing of adequate products at a low price and the distribution process to the consumer. Wal-Mart uses supply chain to reduce its costs so as to provide cheap products to its consumers in a bid to get rid of its competitors (Lee 39).
Wal-Mart has incorporated technological systems that enable it to make work easier for both the consumer and the supplier (Lee 28). It uses the Point-of-Sales, Voice-based Order Filling (VOF) and the Massively Parallel Processor in its inventory system. all these are technological methods that enable the company to control its products from the shelves, control the money gotten from the sales, help the suppliers know how fast their product is being bought and when to go stock it. The employees also have been given special computers in which they can track where certain products are in the store and prevent theft.
Wal-Mart also uses globalization to expand (Ballou 17). It has expanded greatly in the west and also has various stores in developing countries in Africa. In the different stores, it provides the products most likely to be bought by consumers in that
