Student Name Professor's Name Course Date Contemporary Studies of Sexuality and Communication: Theoretical and Applied Perspectives Question 1: Define micro assaults, micro insults, and micro invalidations. Provide an example for each. * The microaggressions are deliberate, violent, verbal and non-verbal ordeals planned to cripple the victims by hurt. This is given an example in the reading, where someone refers to someone as a "fag" or "homo" while working in the office (Dr Jimmie Manning & Noland, p.220). * These psychological acts among people whose conduct is usually occasion less are considered micro transfects. An attempted example would be "That's OK, you're gay" or "fag". * Micro humiliations make the person feel he is not there and that he should stay without thinking about anything. In this example, the volume refers to the supervisor's denial of Sawyer's gender expression when the latter asked Sawyer not to wear their pronoun pin. 2. Discuss microaggressions. Provide some examples (include ones from personal experience if you have encountered them). Microaggressions are not direct discrimination; they disrespect language and attitudes casually and unintentionally (Dr Jimmie Manning & Noland, p.22). Mostly, they become hostile, derogatory or negative toward m5inority group people. One of the real-life instances from the article is when Dr Whit hears students kept using phrases like "that's so gay", "fag", "queer", and "flaming" in the classroom, which indicates that there were more in the abyss of homophobia and heteronormativity. My personal history includes microaggressions in the workplace; for example, I often get asked many curious questions related to my ethnic background, or I am taken as less competent because of my gender. 3. Identify and discuss four LGBTQ-based microaggressions in the workplace presented in the chapter. Provide an example for each. * Use of heterosexist or transphobic terminology: A casual utterance of a gay man as a "faggot," a dyke, or a transgender person as a "tranny." * Endorsement of heteronormative or gender normative cultures or behaviors: An example is following the old-way regulation of dress based on assigned sex at birth. * Exoticization: Asking explicit questions about sex and genitalia. * Discomfort/disapproval with LGBTQ experiences: Believing that LGBTQ couples should not raise children or refusing to acknowledge trans identities (Dr Jimmie Manning & Noland, p.227). 4. How is hetero-cis-normativity manifested in the workplace? Illustrate your answer with an example. The expression of hetero-cis-normativity through the assumption that heterosexuality and cisgender states of being are the norm in the arena of work is one way through which hetero-cis-normativity is expressed (Dr Jimmie Manning & Noland, p.216). Let us discuss an episode from the readings where Sawyer's manager requests them to remove their pronoun pin with the covert intention that being outwardly no binary is wrong in the workplace. Another example is hetero...
