Student Name Professor's Name Course Date Cross-Disciplinary Analysis: Music and Literature through Code-Switching A specific correlation between music and literature allows further investigation of research interests. In attempting to look at the interrelations between a music course and a literature course, code-switching is used to identify common areas. Pivoting between languages or dialects and one's ability to conceive of one thing in terms of another, this book uses the troping of code-switching to address how concepts from music transform when examining literature and how the reverse occurs. Music is described as the art of combinations of musical notes played simultaneously in a pleasant manner, known as harmony. Likewise, in literature, there is another concept called plot that arranges a story's items into a systematic framework by including plot, characters, and scenes (Pratama, Febby & Desnaranti, pp. 363- 371). In this respect, the exposition in a literary work is like introducing a theme in music and laying a foundation for subsequent development, climax, and denouement of music. Rhythm pertains to the duration of musical notes, establishing beats and non-beats patterns, which affect the overall mood of a composition (Wu et al., p.4). On the other hand, a fast-paced, measured, and complex section of the book punctuated with long spiral sentences is similar to Adagio, a piece that has a slower pace. In music, dynamics are all aspects of the loudness or softness of a piece, which produce dramatic expressiveness in a composition. In literature, the tone characterizes the author, their feeling towards the topic, and the readers, a mild to strong emotion. It is found that aspects such as the choice of words, the length of the sentences, and the type of punctuation used can help develop a play of varying dynamics in literature, like the dynamics within a musical piece; the difference in loudness seasoned the emotional texture of the stor...
