In the past three decades, technology has evolved rapidly and revolutionized the way people function at work, home, sports, and school. Its impact on education is undeniable. Most of the tasks that did not require technology in the past rely on it today. Humans, including children and adults, use technology daily through web surfing, social networking, interactive gaming, texting, and simulations. Such information technologies have transformed learning in remarkable ways. Today, tablets, online classrooms, SMART boards, instant messaging, computers, and virtual gaming play a significant role in education (Tan et al. 428). Technology has improved teaching effectiveness, enhanced relationships between educators and students, and made learning more enjoyable.
The incorporation of technology in learning has augmented teaching effectiveness. According to Riehemann and Regina, technology-based teaching, which entails educational videos, simulation, mind-mapping, brainstorming, databases, and the World-Wide-Web (www), makes the learning process more fulfilling and meaningful (130). Implementing the proper use of technology in different subject areas that encompass intricate concepts and skills increases students' achievement. For example, instructors use Microsoft PowerPoint to present topics innovatively that encourage classroom discussions, student engagement, and creative thinking. Tan et al. add that incorporating technology in teaching enhances the learning process and maximizes learners' abilities in active learning (430). Moreover, ICT integration helps educators to design syllabi and lesson plans effectively. Thus, technology makes teaching more fulfilling, augments students' achievement, and encourages active learning.
Technology adoption in education has improved student-teacher and peer relationships. For instance, implementing one-to-one computing programs and online teaching has significant impacts on student-teacher interactions and classroom management. Gibson et al. postulate that using tablets increases the potential for close student-teacher connections because they extend the time allocated for learner-centred activities (63). Mainly, one-to-one technology-based teaching facilitates teacher-student connection by fostering more student-centred learning than traditional classrooms. Furthermore, intelligent devices such as iPads, tablets, and laptops in classrooms encourage participative and collaborative learning. A growing body of literature suggests that incorporating technology in peer-led discussions increases students' motivation and interactions (Riehemann and Regina 134). For example, wikis, online book clubs, and blogs help connect scholars from different schools, states, and other countries. Such technologies expose students to other cultures and motivate meaningful interactions across learning.
Advancements in technology have made learning more interesting for students. As technology becomes an integral part of the everyday world, its integration in education has proven useful. Young people use technologies such as web surfing, social networking, texting, and interactive games daily (Riehemann and Regina 134). The amalgamation of such technologies in education improves students' interest in learning. Gibson et al. observe that technology effectively engages learners in critical thinking and problem-solving (65).
