Introduction
College athletics is a significant form of entertainment in America. It has a massive following as much as the mainstream sporting events. When professional athletes play, they get paid multimillion-dollar salaries. The same cannot be said for college athletes, who also play in college athletic events only get compensated for their talent with scholarships. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is mandated to regulate college athletics and improve the academic experience of student-athletes. The organization blocks college athletes from being paid as professionals when they play. According to Statista, the NCAA made close to a billion dollars in revenues from television and marketing rights. In recent years, there has been widespread argument regarding whether college athletes should be compensated for playing, risking injury, generating massive revenue through game promotions, and sacrificing their school time.
