The Contribution Makes of Engineers in Energy Conservation
Energy conservation has been diversely interpreted as meaning increasing the efficiency or productivity of energy use to maintain or increase economic output with less energy, accommodating behavior by curtailing energy and switching to more abundant energy sources. Energy efficiency, in the most common meaning of energy conservation today, involves technological change – the substitution of ingenuity for energy resources – to provide a given amenity level for less. Energy conservation and energy efficiency can be stimulated by information , technological progress, shortages, price increases, and codes and standards. Interest in energy conservation is driven not for its own sake but by economic, security, and environmental concerns, including climate change ( Cleveland & Morris 2014 ).
In many cases, areas of obvious energy conservation are not considered simply because a process or some space heating has always been undertaken that way. In order to persuade the organization’s management to embark on such energy-conservation measures overwhelming evidence is required that the theoretical results suggested can be achieved.
Energy Engineers design, develop, or evaluate energy-related projects to reduce energy costs or improve energy efficiency during designing, building, or remodeling stages of constructions. They may specialize in electrical systems, green buildings, lighting, air quality, energy procurement or heating, ventilation, and Air-conditioning systems. Energy Engineers’ main tasks include designing controls for energy systems, designing and coordinating construction activities with energy considerations, implementing programs to reduce energ
