NASA has recorded millions of technology spin-off in various sectors including in the health sector. Some of the notable spinoffs from the shuttle in the medical sector include the implantable heart resynchronization device. The implantable heart resynchronization device was partially developed from the on space shuttle fuel pump technology (Lockney 1-10). Accordingly, a small implantable heart pumps to-date have been implanted successfully on thousands of patients all over the world. The heart pump that has proved to be a lifesaving device is purposely designed to prolong the life of patient waiting for a heart transplant. The device was developed through the teamwork between NASA, MicroMed Technology Inc., Dr. George Noon, and Dr. Michael DeBakey.
