Aristotle’s Elements Experienced in Shakespeare in Love Play.
Shakespeare in love is an amazing literature work that offers both fantasies and truths about Shakespeare’s love life and his romantic escapades (Hall, 77). Shakespeare’s success was highly geared by the fact that he utilized Aristotle’s elements of theatre to the level best.
Plot
The plot is one of the most important aspects in drama field. Playwrights who have tried to have played without a plot end up having unsuccessful carriers. All successful plots in dramatic and episodic theatre work possess a beginning, middle and end segments (Rush, 118). The beginning is whereby Shakespeare introduces the characters and their role in the play this evident in Shakespeare in love where get to know characters like Viola who is in love with the theatre and admires the work of Shakespeare (William, 82). The end segment outlines a new routine for characters and the resolution of the actions and decision that characters take during the play. A good example is a decision that Viola and Shakespeare took to have the secretive love affair which turned out to be sour. The middle segment is the backbone of the story which begins with the change in the normal routine of characters and later on mixed reactions filled with hope and suspense(Rush, 118). This was evident where Viola decided to fit in into a man’s character going to an extent of changing her name everyone in the audience was filled with suspense to see how this will work out for her.
Character
This aspect was ranked by Aristotle as the second most important aspect of theatre. Characters in a play should be engaging and as interesting as possible. Shakespeare perfected in this art by having three dimensional characters that had both deep and complex personalities (Hall, 77). This aspect made them either to be good or evil; they had very tough choices to make on various decisions. This was evident through a character such as Thomas Kent who knew that women were not allowed to be on stage and therefore camouflaging to a man character to push her through (William, 82).
Theme
This is commonly known as the moral of the story basically, it’s what the audience learns and relate from the whole play (Rush, 118). Art work such as Shakespeare in love has a strong theme which is characterized by uniqueness, universal and open to suggestions. It’s universal in the sense that anyone not only in Europe and America but in the whole world would relate to the theme of love. The theme is unique doesn’t offer room for prediction and clichés but instead create suspense for the audience to yearn for more (Hall, 77). Lastly, the theme being open to suggestions make the audience ask themselves so many questions instead of answers. This Aristotle’s theatre element was applied to the brim by Shakespeare in love play.
