Introduction
The coinage celebrity has gained widespread attention across the globe. Celebrities have emerged from all sectors of life with sports, politics, and entertainment being some of the sectors that boast of many celebrities. Modern-day celebrities have emerged as prominent individuals renowned worldwide owing to the proliferation of technology and social media. As a result of the fame attached to celebrities, celebrities have created some culture around them that influences society. Celebrity culture is defined as the popularization of individuals owing to characteristics that are associated with them (Cashmore 249). Society views celebrities as exceptional people, albeit the traits associated with them not being necessarily authentic. Celebrity culture has impacted society disproportionately since teenagers and the youth regard celebrities as idols to be emulated. This paper evaluates celebrity culture and the impact it has on society. Also, the changes undergone by celebrity culture with the focus being laid to the future of celebrity culture will be assessed.
