No, it's not. This is because the loss of forest ecosystems has always been traced back to economic gains that render forest conversion more profitable than forest conservation. Many essential forest roles have no markets, and so no economic benefit is readily evident to forest owners or communities that depend on forests for their well-being. From a developing countries viewpoint, the benefits of forests, such as carbon traps or habitat reservoirs, go mostly to affluent developed countries, and there is insufficient pay for these services. Developing countries claim that certain developed world countries like the United States States of America burnt down their forests centuries ago and gained enormously from this deforestation and that it is hypocritical to deny third world countries of the same chances: that the poor should not have to bear the cost of mitigation since the rich produced the problem. Experts do not agree on whether industrial forestry contributes greatly to global deforestation.
