Communication Studies: Women in the History of Rhetoric (Essay Sample)
Rhetoric can be defined as a plastic form of art, that gives individuals the ability to assess problems, fight against unjust systems, remake ourselves as committed citizens, broaden our rhetorical collection, and by doing this, improve and partake in a manner of life which we trust in (Rich and Glenn). For more than two thousand five hundred years, women have been deemed invincible and quiet in rhetorical studies. However, recently these rhetorical studies have started to locate women involved in the rhetorical territory, guided by feminist intellectuals who desire their rhetorical works to be regarded, to make rhetorical learning a more all-encompassing, extensive, democratic project. The selected approach, “women in the history of rhetoric” presents an in-depth analysis of the history of women in rhetorical studies. This paper aims to give a brief analysis of the selected approach, and to use this approach to discuss how Amanda Gorman’s poetic speech: “the hill we climb” during Biden’s inauguration contained feminist rhetoric language and vivid descriptions.
