Culturally Relevant Teachers
The role of teacher is one of the most important in creating children’s and student’s personality. Teachers are often perceived as the models to follow. So, the way teacher behaves, thinks and acts directly affects children’s outlook and character. In addition to this, in the 21st century, when the nationalities become more and more culturally diverse, the importance of culturally relevant teachers is of high importance.
First of all, a good teacher must understand that his or her own behavior shapes children’s overlook. Sometimes teacher’s culture and beliefs differ from his students’. In such cases it is important to adjust to other cultures and to be open-minded to set a good example for other students. When there are different nationalities or student’s with different cultural backgrounds, it is important to put an effort in the relationships with such students. A good teacher will try to find more about student’s culture and traditions. In addition to this, he will never judge student’s beliefs.
