Introduction
This paper focuses on the development of the artistic works of the dancer and choreographer Jose Limon. It also follows his work and legacy in his dance company the Limon Dance Company. The dancer is famed for his electrifying, dramatic as well as interesting choreography. He developed a range of dance techniques that still bear significant relevance in the modern dance field today. His works took the world’s interest and made a significant contribution to the art form of dance. His legacy is still alive in his art as well as being carried on by his company. The icon is attributed to the development and growth of the dance form of art by making considerable milestones through his expression in dance. Other than his direct contribution in the form of technique, he also championed for the change of the perception towards dance through the expression of his own ideas as well as those of other artists. Most notably, he was among the most significant pioneers of the development of the dance identity which was typically a woman dominated the area in his time (Lewis, 5). His accomplishments saw the change of the art forms perception in the generation to the end of a masculine presence and appreciation in the field. In this light, his legacy is to be celebrated and echoed by the current generation.
