Facebook is among the most significant social network sites in the world. Facebook has approximately two billion subscribers from different countries. They store large amounts of personal data, which makes it a prime target by intruders. Current research shows that subscribers to social networks face privacy attacks where impostors steal personal data and sell it to markers. Legislatures blame Facebook for sharing personal data with third parties. Facebook acts unethically by sharing confidential information to scientific researchers. Congress can reduce privacy breach by adopting the Data Protection Act, formulated by the government of the United Kingdom, to ensure that Facebook gets consent from subscribers before sharing personal information for research purposes.
Facebook exposes personal data to third parties. Current research shows that personal data is publicly available on Facebook (Nyoni and Velempini 2). Third parties can easily access personal data by searching on individual profiles. Approximately 56% of Facebook users post information daily (Nyoni and Velempini 3). Failure of Facebook to provide practical ways of storing personal data makes it easy for intruders to breach the security of users. Facebook further poses a risk to personal data by sharing data with researchers.
