Oscar Wilde's writing style has an ineffable allure that only the direct reading of his literary works can convey faithfully. Dorian Gray, the protagonist of his masterpiece, is a character incredible and unreal, whose beauty is so intense that he loses himself in its contemplation and starts to fear the moment when it would inexorably wither. Greatly impressed by Dorian Gray's physical perfection, his friend Basil Hallward, a talented painter, decides to draw a portrait making of it his life masterpiece : "His personality suggested to me an entirely new way, an entirely new style. [...]"(D.G.,pp.63). The painting's outcome would have been so sticking to the original model that everyone, while gazing it, was mesmerized by the expression of the aristocratic features emerging from the canvas. Dorian feels himself blown away by his own appearance depicted in the portrait, motionless and dazzled in front of an artwork that goes well beyond his highest expectations and gave him the "sudden revelation of his own beauty".(D.G.,pp.70)
