Flannery O'Connor's "A Good Man is Hard to Find", as well as Joyce Carol Oates, "Where Are You Going, and Where Have You Been?" They are unusual stories that are the literary grotesque by the appearance of turning points. Or something of the printer or a mark by which at the same time calls on the audience or reader feeling uncomfortable bizarreness. Of course, O' Connor's stories, the grotesque often is used to convert the character of grace. For example, "A Good Man is Hard to Find" grandmother is converted when she identified herself as a misfit: "Why you are one of my children," she tells him. The drivers said, his name was Arnold's friend. They wanted to take her for a ride, and Arnold was very persistent. Finally, she noticed something about the guys. They were not boys. "Connie felt a wave of dizziness will rise in her at this spectacle and she stared at him as if waiting for somewhat to change the surprise of the moment, make it alright again" pg. 371.
Connie told them that they should leave, but they did not. Arnold began to talk about the barbecue, that her family was like he was there and he knew every name. Connie began to panic, she told Arnold that he was crazy and she's going to call the police. Arnold promised that he is not going to go after him, if she did not touch the phone. "She rushed forward and tried to lock the door" But why lock "Arnold friend said, it is just a door" p. 373. He moved on to harass her. He said: "it is all over for you here, so you come out, you do not want to have any problems with your people do you?" p. 376. In this statement, she ran into the back room and picked up the phone, "she felt her breath starts jerking back and forth in her lungs, as if something like Arnold friend was stabbing her over and over again with no affection. After a moment, she sat on the floor with his back to the wall in the wet, "p. 376. Then she went out to the screen door, where Arnold friend waited. She had given up. She knew at the time that she could not save himself.
