The expression is given, and Expression is given off.
According to Goffman, the expression given are those which people intend others to see. Mostly they are the verbal expression in which one needs to make others know about the interaction. In expression given when I am associating with someone, whatever I express as we communicate, I mean from my side. For example, if I am showing up someone an assignment, I show concern about what I truly mean, and I feel happy when I am giving out the service. Goffman indicated that you could truly know the true character of the person you are talking to or interacting with within the expression given. Sometimes the expression given may be misinterpreted with expression given off, usually not what the person acting is meaning. The expression given off is a form of pretense in which one is not giving out the true intentions in which one is meaning. For example, when the employer gives an employee so much work, they may not show a feeling of fatigue or act upon the pressure being filed on them. They may show happiness on their face only to show the employer that they are contented with the situation, but the exact mood is that they are stressed up by too much work. The expression given off is a contradiction of the person who is giving out the expression. In most cases, the expression given off may give a wrong impression and character of a person. Every person should have expression is given and expression given off in everyday life, which mostly helps them deal with different situations. It is also a way in which one may use to create a picture in which the third party wishes to see or get from somebody. According to Goffin, the expression given off is the worst, more so when one has positive expectations.
