Healthcare: The Importance of Interprofessionalism in Healthcare
Interprofessional collaboration in Healthcare basically refers to the process of practicing patient care as a team as opposed to an individual. The partnership between healthcare team and other disciplines is gradually becoming more significant. This interprofessional collaboration can involve nurses, physicians, and pharmacists. The World Health Organization advocates for interprofessionalism as well as the respect for other team member’s perspectives which can efficiently improve the outcomes of a patient. According to Heidi Sanborn (a revered Nursing and Healthcare professor), healthcare relays on various disciplines which have the same objective of meeting the patient’s needs. Besides, incontrovertible evidence from the conducted researches suggests that positive patients’ outcomes and excellent healthcare delivery are more evident when the caregivers work as a team. Sanborn argues that interprofessional collaboration has not been inherently part of the Healthcare education system. Every discipline, according to Sanborn, had specialized in particular expertise before a collaboration perspective was considered. He also realized that when a healthcare provider identifies as a part of the bigger Healthcare team, best patient service is guaranteed, which is the ultimate objective of each discipline.
