Legalizing Marijuana: Pros and Cons
The Idea whether marijuana should be legalized or not continues to generate heated debate in the United States. In this view, the issue has put various States and federal government at the crossroad. Whereas some states have passed laws that seek to legalize the drug, regulations at the federal level still prohibit cannabis trade. The state of Colorado was the first one to legalize the drug and several other states have followed suit. Today, marijuana is allowed for recreational and medical use in more than 30 states. However, the decision has some advantages and disadvantages. While the faction supporting the decision state that legalization of marijuana has succeeded in eliminating black markets and acting as a source of revenue, it has also resulted in an increase in crime rates thus costing the correction system billions of dollars.
