According to Johnson, species around the world undergo various interactions over years(p273). He confirms that interactions occurring in the environment may be due to predation, diseases or unpredictable catastrophes. Species extinction may be understood in the context of extermination or loss of species. Although mass extinction happens over years, Smith et al.(p1350) recognize humans as a dominant species.
