If Shakespeare be Obligatory to Study in Schools
“To be or not to be?” is a phrase from William Shakespeare famous the play called Hamlet. These words are spoken by a young Prince Hamlet while he debates on whether to live or to die by committing suicide. Hamlet is sure of the pain and suffering of life, and wonders if death could be a possible answer to end suffering or if suffering follows even after death CITATION Wil04 \l 1033 (Shakespeare, 2004).
In the present society, the phrase “To be or not to be” in the academic field is often followed by another interesting phrase, “To teach or not to teach”. This sparks the debate on whether Shakespeare works should continue to be obligatory parts of study in schools or not. While the works of Shakespeare have been around for half a millennium, enriching and adding vibrance to the English language, times are changing CITATION Rya17 \l 1033 (Hoover, 2017).
