The Pledge to Eliminate Poverty and Hunger
The pledge to end poverty and hunger in the world is the Sustainable Development Goal number one. This goal is the greatest challenge that faces humanity today. Efforts towards eradicating poverty have realized a significant improvement since 1990 when the objective was first tabled. Statistics show that poverty levels have decreased significantly by more than a half since 1990 to 2019. As of the year 2015, it was estimated that about 736 million people were living on less than $ 1.90 a day (“SDG 1: No Poverty” 1). Since then, the majority of the world’s population has realized a significant improvement in their living standards. Industrialized nations like China and India have lifted the lives of many people out of poverty through the provision of food, clean water, and sanitation. As a result of the polocies, chronic diseases have reduced, and many families are currently living in healthy environments. Eradicating poverty and hunger remains one of the primary Sustainable Development Goals as this phenomenon has contributed to decreased economic growth and development in many countries.
