Where You Want To Be in Life, in 10 Years
Introduction
A Vision is crucial in one’s life. The dictionary defines vision as the capacity to plan or have such thoughts regarding the future. Imagination plays a significant role in visualizing how the future will pan out, based on one’s plans. A dream answers the question ‘where,' but rarely does it focus on how to get there. The two essential aspects governing vision are a purpose and innate desires. Nonetheless, a vision orients the direction that life takes, as one must follow it to ensure the stated milestones are fulfilled. A similar concept applies to my life, where I envision myself in ten years, having attained the expected goals. Importantly, these goals, which include fluency in English and Spanish languages, teaching lessons in Spanish in a renowned university, traveling across the world, and teaching English to the less fortunate, do not follow a specified pathway, but attaining them will be fulfilling.
Personal Background
Currently, I am in my thirties, and in a decade, I will be in an age gap where working is challenging as the effects of aging start to affect the physical and mental conditions. Unlike most individuals, who retire when they become senior citizens, I have recently retired, a decision, which will provide me with the opportunity to attain my life long goals and objectives. I have a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a master’s in Public Administration. These two educational attainments will hugely affect my personal and professional life. Reviewing my life’s vision will provide the scope on how I anticipate achieving these milestones.
Life Milestones
I love learning new concepts, keep challenging myself, and continually expanding my knowledge. I want to learn English and Spanish. Learning a new language when one is young is much easier compared to when one has matured (Summervile). Unlike in young children where learning, including a new language, is part of the unconscious brain configuration, an adult must consciously learn new information and associate it with the given language. Such a complication makes it challenging to become fluent in a secondary language. In such a way, one may find the so-learned information is dissociated from essential facets of the language (Summervile). Therefore, I expect to face such challenges in my pursuit of multilingualism. I expect to find it challenging to transition from the dictionary and learned words to integration into the typical conversation. The possible way to increase my chances of learning is to relocate temporarily to Spanish areas. Such a region will ensure I get hands-on experience with the language and at the same time, offer me a platform to practice what I have been learning.
My expected career path also defines the path life takes and the subsequent decisions to support it. Hence, the need to learn the Spanish language is based on my necessity to teach my area of interest in analogous seeking countries. I will initially take online lessons to improve my comprehension of the language and later visit the Spanish speaking regions to practice theoretical knowledge and apply it in real-life situations. Notably, spoken Spanish might differ from the written word, especially considering the format used in formal scenarios. Besides, I need to understand whether the jargon of teaching languages and the one related to my area of interest is connected to the spoken language. Such an approach will ensure that I can communicate my ideas with minimal struggles. Later I will apply the new information to teach in the areas I studied. Once I become proficient in this language, I intend to become a distinguished teacher who can be employed in prominent areas, such as a well-known university. Besides, my understanding of this language will help in appreciating the cultural facets of the Spanish people, such as traditions and cuisines. Accordingly, my necessity to learn the Spanish language is fuelled by my desire to use the language and teach in my area of specialization and at the same time appreciate its cultural affiliations.
I love giving back to the society. It shows gratitude and ability to share the little one has with the less fortunate. Instead of considering it as a waste of time, since I do not expect any potential returns, I view it as a way of improving my emotional awareness and connecting with individuals who we share interests. It is also emotionally satisfying in helping others. I derive immense gratification from making a difference in the life of others (Frelix). Besides, the approach helps me feel that I am fulfilling my purpose of making the world a better place. In such a way, through teaching, an area I am passionate about, I can help to improve the livelihood of children and adults in equal measures. The obstruction in this philanthropic endeavor is my limited scope of experience in teaching the language since this is a new career path. I am hoping to share my knowledge with the specified category of individuals and help them make informed life decisions.
Traveling is another area I am passionate about and intend to pursue keenly. I would love to explore the international spectrum of travelling as opp...
