Abstract Huntington Disease
Huntington's disease, (HD) refers to a malaise that emanates from the relapse of the brain’s nerve cells. The Huntington disease is a common medical condition among the individuals aged 30-40. However, research illustrates that the disorder might sometimes occur in earlier stages of life. The illness results in jerking movements of the limbs, dementia, chorea, and a decline of cognitive function (Pringsheim and Tamara 1087). Furthermore, the illness might cause depression and lack of concentration to the victims. The condition affects people of all races and at the same frequency for both men and women. According to Harper, the diagnosis for Huntington illness is based on clinical symptoms among the parents with the health condition (369). Medical practitioners recommend that the HD management department majors its efforts on treating the symptoms towards an improved quality of life. Currently, medical researchers have not discovered any treatment for HD.
Epidemiology
Research on the prevalence of Huntington disease, (HD) in the Northern Ireland indicates that 8 out of 100,000 persons tested positive for the predominance rate of the disorder (Morrison et al. 528). Notably, Huntington disease is rare in countries, such as Japan and Finland. However, the condition is not taken seriously in the African American society.
Financial costs
Outpatient costs is the primary component in the treatment of Huntington disease. The average price per person with HD in the Northern Ireland is 21, 605 sterling pounds (Morrison et al. 542). Notably, the highest cost is in the informal care across all stages of the health disorder.
Etiology
Research illustrates that HD can be inherited from one generation to the other. For this reason, it is irrepressible since it involves the relapse of the nerve cells.
Diagnosis and Treatments
Studies indicate that no form of treatment can reverse or stop the Huntington illness. However, medications, such as antidepressants, tetrabenazine, and tranquilizers help to keep the symptoms of the disease under control.
Conclusion and Findings
Huntington illness is a hereditary medical condition that results in degeneration of brain cells and neu...
