Introduction
The drug is any substance applied either internally or externally onto an individual’s body with an aim of causing some desirable effects by altering the nervous system working. Drugs have been used for centuries in form of treatment for the sick. Circumstances have however changed as evidenced by the current world where drug abused is on a high rise across all ages. The current world has witnessed high school students, college level young adults and mature individuals abusing drugs freely on the streets. The most abused drugs are marijuana, cocaine, alcohol and nicotine. These drugs are readily available on the streets, corrupt pharmaceutical centers and various hideouts utilized by drug peddlers
Negative effects of drug abuse
Firstly, drug abuse leads to financial constraints to the users, family, society and the government in general. It’s quite evident that a significant number of drugs are not that cheap regardless of its small quantity to value ratio. Individuals therefore who indulge in drug abuse find themselves having challenges in catering for their basic needs. Most of them would rather forego family uses ate the expense of these drugs. It's also very common for individuals who abuse drug to miss work and later get dismissal letters. Such scenarios lead to low income or no income at all in the long run. Owing to the fact that most of these drugs are illegal, individuals who consume the same will find themselves on the wrong end of the law hence require legal advisory (Krasikova, Lester & Harms, 283). Legal representation come at a huge cost to such individuals.
Secondly, drugs are highly linked to physical deformation on the user’s body. Continuous ingestion of illicit drugs into a human being’s body will in the long run lead to brain impairment (Volkow et al. 18). Some drugs including cocaine have been found to alter internal chemical responses and overall functionality of the brain. Too much alcohol content on the other hand has been linked to lower Intelligent Quotient among the users. Moreover, these drugs lead to hyperactiveness and aggressiveness among the users hence leading to a regular physical fight between them with law enforces or their colleges. Such fights will in the long run cause physical harm to their bodies.
Lastly, emotional challenges are quite present in families, society and individual’s life’s whenever drug abuse sets in. people who indulge in drug abuse habits eventually develop low self-esteem hence the low productivity rate recorded from them (Kendler et al.212).
