Human Rights Issues and Public Health
Human rights and public health share an interdependent relationship where the two concepts depend on each other. Human rights issues affect the delivery and access to public health in the society (Mann 6). Human rights violations contributes and exacerbates to poor health for individuals in the public. Some of the basic human rights that are often violated public health include; freedom from torture, education, right to equal treatment, right to privacy, and right to life. When these human rights issues occur, they deny individuals equal access to public health (Chuang-Feng and Chien-Huei 12). Abuse of human rights are common in in public health in most countries. Public health officials are often accused of violating human rights of patients or individuals they serve. Moreover, human rights issues affect the equal and effective provision of public health services in a society.
Some of the physical rights issues such as torture have devastating effects on the physical health of an individual. A person who is tortured is more likely to experience both physical and psychological health consequences (Mann 12). Public health is meant to
