The Legalization of Medicinal Marijuana
The debate regarding the therapeutic advantages of medical marijuana is underway. Whereas many states in the United States have deemed it fit to have active marijuana laws and many allow the substance to be used for recreational use, the federal government still classifies it as a schedule 1 controlled substance. With robust supporters on every side, the argument against and for the legalization of marijuana continues.
According to the NY Times, it is increasingly becoming easier to obtain marijuana, legally. It adds that for the past 20 years or more, a substantial number of states, 23 to be precise have since passed the laws which seek to make it legal to acquire and subsequently use cannabis particularly for medicinal treatment (Rubens, 129). Similarly, advocates have a firm belief that this move has since paved the way for more people who are having intractable medical challenges to get a safe as well as efficient therapy.
Consequently, the New York Times adds that the most recent systematic review which was published in the journal of the American Medical Association paid more attention to all randomized control trials with respect to cannabinoids or cannabis in treating medical problems. They were able to establish that 79 trials which involved over 6400 participants. A significant number of those trials demonstrated remarkable improvements in symptoms whereas a huge number did not realize statistical importance. Some did, nonetheless.
