The Indians established it in 1969 in Minneapolis. Indians had been neglected hence there was a need in bringing justice. They had been receiving a lot of abuse from law enforcement colonels thus the establishment of a movement, which would deliver better protection and care for them (Farrelly, Maura Jane).
Indian Gaming Regulatory Act
The United States Congress endorsed it on the October 17th, 1988 to standardize the conduct of gaming on Indian lands. It establishes a regulatory structure for Indian gaming in the United States (Farrelly, Maura Jane).

Both the Lakota and Navajos rejected the Indian Reorganization Act. The Navajos were the first to dismiss the Act profoundly. During voting, a total of 181 tribes voted for the Act while 77 were against it (Farrelly, Maura Jane). Of the tribes who voted for it, ninety-three wrote constitutions which were by the United States Constitution rather than the tribal custom. Many tribes because of many reasons did not authorize the Act. There was a fear that the act would increase government control over their lives. Also, it was not uncommon for the tribes to be doubtful of the state government and their motives. The Navajos felt that voting for the act was giving John Collier a vote which was a vote for stock reduction. The Navajo valued their sheep because of the cultural values it had.
Mary Crow is a Lakota woman who was named to be brave because of her life story she experienced. She was a half-blood, with a white father and an Indian mother. Due to racism at those times, she was not welcomed by the whites at all. This made her develop a hatred for the. Her entire life consisted of hatred and abuse until she was finally accepted by the society. She had an aunt who was old, and she could describe her having high cheekbones like that of a grandmother. Her name was Aunt Elsie Flood. She likes listening to her aunt’s stories and many other old aged women (Farrelly, Maura Jane). This is because of their stories particularly that of Aunt Elsie motivated her since they were majorly her life experiences. She also loved listening to how the old women could talk quickly mixing both Indian and English which meant she needed to pay a lot of attention.
The Wounded Knee was located in southwestern of Dakota on the Pine Ridge of the Indian reservation. It was a site of conflict between the United States government agents and the North American Indians. The American Indian Movement took over the Wounded Knee for seventy-one days to protest conditions on the reservations. It is a significant place among the Lakota since it was there that the American Indian Movement was formed in an attempt of stopping the police harassment of Indians in the Minneapolis area. It was also chosen because of its significance of the Sioux (Farrelly, Maura Jane).
